The "iphone"y phenomena

I could not restrain myself from telling the world about the crazy iphone phenomena gripping everyone around the globe...

The iphone 3g(s) was unveiled at the wwdc 09...

it was a refreshing update to the iphone but rather it looked the same.
The announcer told us that it had the same beautiful design from the outside but the inside was brand new. and the (s) denoted speed...
he went on to say that it was performing twice as fast as the former iphone 3g.
and he went on an on about the new features like video recording,MMS,voice recognition....
was watching it in disgust.. i mean... come on.. are these totally new to the world???
but apple still persists that iphone is years ahead of its competition..(gosh.. no way!)

ok.. i ll agree to some extent that it is faster and the design is beautiful and all the features are enough for a layman to use... now let us see.. why do i call the 'iphone'y??

These are my views:

First and foremost of all... I dont hate the iphone...
When the iphone 1 was released, the world went gaga and i too went gaga...
it was the slickest device i had ever seen.. yet some features were yet to be accomplished through software and so people had to wait.
Then came the iphone 3g with a great new hardware and a new software.
Again the world went crazy... and presumably i too went crazy...
Who wouldn be crazy to know that the price of it was just 199$ in the united states and it was soon going to be released in 80 countries including India!!
That was the most amazing keynote i had ever seen. Steve jobs was at ease explaining the features and all that.

And then i started to see the clear picture. For starters, i would like to admit that yeah, i was kinda brainwashed by all that slick gimmick.some of the reviews were amazing enough t rope me in.Everything dawned when it released in INDIA.with a price that only filthy rich people could afford.It was nearly 35,000 rs. on the day of release.

Back to why i called it the 'iphone'y is due to the pricing in the U.S
let me clarify according to the current prices...

iphone 3g(s) 32 gb: 299$*
iphone 3g(s) 16 gb: 199$*
iphone 3g 8 gb: 99$*
iphone 3g 16gb: 149$*

These were the prices announced for at&t customers in the U.S...

So what all these stars for?

*- compulsory 2 years contract
- compulsory unlimited data plan(required for app store)at 30$ per month
- minimum call plans start at 39.99$ per month
- Text packages cost more but we can choose not to pay but it costs 2o cents per text message.

So all these add up to minimum 69.99$ per month for two years...
Thats approx. 1680$ for 2 years!!!

For people living in the U.S its not such a big deal.
But i am very sad to say that it kinda presents a fake picture in the heads of overseas iphone fans who cannot get iphone for that low prices.
In india the prices are so high that only celebs can afford this mobile.
And dont get me talkin about the missing features for that amount of money i spend.
Those features i can get even in the cheapest phones.If i start to explain abt all that you ll think i am a hardware basher so i ll refrain from that.
Thats why i certainly call it 'iphone'y.

P.S: since this post had to be a long one i couldn post it at 10 in the night. instead i am posting this at 10 in the morning.
